Pilates exercises are built around 8 principles. It is important to learn these and be able to apply them to the exercises, so as to become more body aware, and then be able to safely join one of the regular classes. Feeder Courses (our name for beginners’ courses) have been run for several years now, and they are the most popular way to learn and understand the basics, and to then continue in one of our regular classes.
The cost of a Feeder Course is £50 per person for 5 weeks.
This is payable in advance and there are no refunds for any missed sessions. Each session lasts 75 minutes. Some people do miss a session without it impacting on their progress, but if you are going to miss the first, or more than one, session we would suggest you delay your attendance until the next available course. You do not need any special equipment or clothing to participate in a Feeder Course - just wear loose comfortable clothing - no jeans!
Dates for Feeder Courses are given below. Each course runs for 5 weeks.
Saturday 13th September at 11am
Friday 7th November at 6.30pm
Friday 9th January 2009 at 6.30pm
TO BOOK call or contact us and we will put your name down for the next available course.
MEN ONLY CLASS!
We have a new class on the timetable at 1pm on Tuesday we are running a men only class with Phil Hayward, contact Karen for availability and booking.
We run regular mat work classes that are suitable for people who have just completed a Feeder Course, or have had private sessions, and wish to continue with Pilates. Each session lasts 75 minutes. Sessions are held in Northampton at various times of the day and evening, Monday to Saturday. In Rushden, sessions run on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings.
If you have already done Pilates before, please speak to Karen about joining regular sessions. It will depend on where, and how long you have attended Pilates sessions.
Our Northampton classes are based at the County Cricket Ground, which means that sometimes we have members of the cricket team dropping in to class.
We run a skeleton schedule over the summer break so clients can continue until term begins again in September.
The Pilates Studio in Northampton is the only fully dedicated studio in the county with three Reformers, a Trapeze Table, Ladder Barrel, and a comprehensive range of other small items of equipment.
We run group Studio Sessions where you can work on the equipment as well as doing mat work exercises. It is essential for these sessions that you have already attended
a Feeder Course, or had one-to-one tuition, so that you fully understand the principles prior to using the equipment.
The equipment is suitable for all levels, but it is particularly popular with sportsmen and women as, unlike using conventional gym equipment, you can challenge the body
in many different directions.
Studio Sessions are held on Mondays from 11am -12.30pm. The price is £10.50 per session (with a maximum of 7 people to one instructor).
One-to-one sessions are a good introduction to Pilates if you can’t make the Feeder Courses, or would prefer to have more attention to your workout. The cost of a one- to-one session is £35 per person for one hour.
We can also arrange small group sessions, either with you and your friends/family/partner etc. The cost depends on the numbers, ie. two-to-one is £46, three-to-one is £60 and four to six people would be £15 per person.
Sometimes we have a few people who contact us around the same time and want to start Pilates. If this is the case we will contact you all, and offer you the possibility of a
small group session together, which brings the cost down for you.
Depending on your fitness levels and how quickly you pick-up the principles of Pilates, would determine how soon you could join a regular class, if that is what you would like to do.
Some of our clients only have private tuition, some have a private session and come to regular classes as well, and some use the one-to-one sessions as a way of moving
on to the regular classes.
You can do mat work, mat work and equipment or just equipment. The combination is good because you can then learn exercises to continue at home, especially if you are
injured, to ensure that your recovery is complete. You would need to do more than once a week to regain good health and fitness, but that can be done at home, with instruction sheets to help you remember the exercises and ensure correct technique. 10 minutes a time done really well is just as effective, and will give you long term
benefits.
These sessions are only available at the Northampton Pilates Studio.
To book a private session please contact Karen.
If you have private health insurance, you can attend the sessions run on Wednesdays and Fridays with a senior Pilates instructor and either Mark Conway or Barry Goudriaan, who are both Chartered Physiotherapists and are registered with most private health insurance companies.
The sessions will combine physiotherapy, and Pilates exercise, to enable all participants to gain a good understanding of the exercises required to assist in their recovery, from surgery or injury.
We work closely with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Nicholas Birch FRCS Orth, who is based at The Three Shires Hospital in Northampton, and we have an excellent cross referral system between Mr Birch and many of the people atttending our Pilates Classes at both venues.
We also have many patients referred via local hospitals, GP surgeries, and other health professionals, around the county.
If you would like to book for these physio led sessions, please contact Karen for availability.
